Coach Spotlight: Coach Andy

Running track in high school, Coach Andy noted how running was a great tool for personal growth, and how her coaches helped build confidence in herself. She first heard about Girls on the Run Bay Area in a newsletter that consisted of volunteer places in San Francisco. Andy chose GOTR because she thought it was a great way to give back and build confidence in girls that are growing up and finding themselves.

“I feel like every season that I’ve coached, there’s at least one girl who has a huge breakthrough moment of believing in themselves and feeling super confident,” Andy said.

She recalled a previous season where one of the girls showcased strong leadership skills.

“I would say like 3 quarters of the way through the year we do the 5K practice and on the 5K practice there’s one girl who was super fast and finished the 5K way before everyone else. After she finished the 5K, she totally slowed her pace down and went with one of the girls who was going a little bit slower and was struggling a little bit and was really encouraging her. That girl was just really excited to finish with one of her other teammates and was really proud of herself for finishing,” said Andy.
