Meet Our Summer Intern, Hosna!

Hello! My name is Hosna and I’m honored to intern for Girls on the Run Bay Area this
summer. I’m an incoming senior at San Francisco State University and am majoring in
psychology with a minor in criminal justice and counseling. Since freshman year, I’ve been
proactive in contributing to the holistic well-being of the communities I serve by doing outreach, volunteering, facilitating school events, and organizing educational material. Additionally, I’ve worked on campus as a mental health education student assistant, interned for the Health Policy & Regulatory Affairs department at UC Office of the President, and have been doing caregiving work through a health-tech startup for the past two years.

As a first-generation Afghan American, remaining committed to enhancing mental health
support stems from my wanting to break the stigma attached to it. My long-term goals are to complete my master’s in social work and become a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) to serve diverse populations in Alameda County.

This past school year, I studied abroad in the United Kingdom at the University of Birmingham and have experienced tremendous growth during my time abroad. I visited a total of twelve countries and went on four solo trips, and I have to say, my worldview has greatly expanded. Traveling and navigating life in foreign country has taught me how big the world is, and the endless opportunities there are to learn and grow. Similarly, I want to join GOTR with the intention to learn something new and contribute to an important cause for young students. I’m excited to extend my commitment to community service and project management in this program, and look forward to seeing all the wonderful work in the next few months!
