Coach Spotlight: Coach Betsy
While looking to get involved in philanthropic work, Coach Betsy found out about Girls on the Run Bay Area through an acquaintance. An avid runner, Betsy participated in sports throughout high school and college, and places a strong emphasis on the importance of fitness.
“The fact that [GOTR] is about moving your body and then the relationship with self and others, that isn’t something that I learned in any sort of curriculum growing up,” she said. “I really wanted to help facilitate and keep the program alive and volunteer.”

In the middle of her first season coaching ever, Betsy looks forward to seeing the individual growth of the girls she is coaching. “On the first day, we had them submit something about themselves that just the coaches should know that we weren’t gonna share with anyone,” Betsy said. “And seeing some of their responses, I can see some of them were timid or weren’t confident in their running abilities. Seeing them realize that they’re actually good at running and then doing that at the 5k at the end is gonna be really exciting.”
