Hello! My name is Graciela Kerr. I am a three sport varsity scholar athlete with a 4.0+ GPA at SRVHS. I verbally committed to continue my athletic career playing lacrosse at the University Of California, Berkeley. I have a passion for youth in sport, specifically highlighting the benefits they give to female athletes in building their character and connecting our community.
I feel closest to my community when playing sports. Even through being sidelined by injury my freshman year, I felt supported by my teammates. Their dedication to my physical and emotional health made me realize the depth of their impact. I decided I wanted to spread the feeling of family they gave me.
Through GOTR’s principles of confidence boosting, strengthening connections, character building, and giving back to the community, I am able to fulfill this goal. As a Junior Coach I work with compassionate mentoring adult coaches and energetic considerate girls. Each lesson I teach about friendship, positive self-talk, confidence, response to difficulties, and star power, teach me as much as the girls I coach.
GOTR inspired me to find more ways to empower women in sports by becoming an intern with the Voice In Sport organization. I started a VIS chapter at my school to spread awareness about the impact of sport and highlight female athletes' struggles with inequality. I learned that one of those inequalities was access to adequate equipment, specifically sports bras.
With the help of Catherine Muriel and Juliana Benfica, I connected GOTR with the charity organization Bras for Girls, to donate sports bras for our GOTR scholarship girls.
I am thankful for the connections that I have made through GOTR and the life skills they have taught me. I look forward to Junior Coaching next season to empower more girls to incorporate movement and star power into their lives.
